A sewing thimble is the tool people skip and then wish they had not. Push a needle through denim, canvas or a quilt sandwich a hundred times and your fingertip takes every one of them. Ten minutes in, you stop — not because the work is done but because your finger has had enough.
Which thimble will actually fit you?
This is why most thimbles end up unused at the bottom of a box: one size, sold hopefully. Two answers here:

Engraved metal thimbles — a fixed size, 2.5 cm tall with a 1.9 or 2 cm opening, in three designs across four antique finishes. Twelve combinations, so there is a good chance one matches your finger.

Adjustable brass thimbles — an open, overlapping band that flexes to your finger instead of asking your finger to match it. Sold as a small and a medium together, and the open side lets a long or gel nail straight through. This is the pair to buy if a thimble has never fitted you.

Soft finger protectors — for pushing from the side of the finger rather than the tip, which is what most people actually do without noticing.
Every metal one has a closed dome dimpled over the full top, so the eye of the needle catches instead of skidding off and stabbing you.
Hand sewing needles that thread themselves
Self-threading needles have an open slot at the top of the eye: you lay the thread over it and push down, and it snaps in. No aiming, no licking the end, no holding it up to a window. If threading has got harder than it used to be, this is a bigger quality-of-life change than a better lamp.

Where do the pins live?
On your wrist, if you have any sense. All three pin cushions here strap on: a floral wristband, a corduroy pumpkin on a snap band, and a magnetic wrist pincushion that catches pins as you drop them near it. A pin cushion on the table is a pin cushion you reach for; one on your wrist is one you never miss.
Sewing something too thick to push a needle through
Leather, canvas, webbing, a heavy strap. A leather sewing awl carries the thread through the hole it makes, locking a stitch as it goes, so you can hand-sew what no domestic machine will take. The kit here is the awl, needles and thread together.
New rather than genuinely antique — and that is deliberate
These are made now to old patterns. Buy a hundred-year-old thimble to sew with and you inherit its problems: dimples worn smooth so the needle skids, a rim thinned at the crown, and whatever size it happens to be. Yours arrive crisp.
