Above every picture is a printed Embroidery Dictionary: labelled rows of the stitches that design uses — 15 different ones across the set, from French knots and feather stitch to a raised cobweb rose and a soft, fluffy pom-pom stitch. Practise a stitch on its row, then put it straight into the picture. By the time the third hoop is finished you have a real repertoire, and three pieces worth hanging up.

How the stitch dictionary teaches you

Every fabric is printed with the words "Embroidery Dictionary" and short practice rows, each named. Across the three designs you meet 15 stitches:

How this compares

Against buying a sampler and a picture kit separately: beginners are often told to learn on a labelled sampler first, then buy a cute kit. Here both are on the same fabric, so you learn a stitch and use it in the same sitting.

Against counted cross-stitch kits: there is no grid to count. This is hand embroidery — you stitch over printed lines on plain fabric.

Against a single-design kit: three designs, three thread cards and a full set of tools for one price.

Size, materials and care

• Hoop: bamboo, 20 cm (7.9 in) across. Each design is printed to fit it.
• Fabric: cotton.
• The blue printed lines wash out with water, so keep the fabric dry and do not wash it until your stitching is finished.

Is this a good embroidery kit for beginners?
Yes. Every stitch is named on the fabric beside a practice row, the threads are pre-sorted for each design, and the hoop and tools are included.

Is this cross-stitch?
It is hand embroidery, worked over printed lines on plain fabric, so there is no chart to count.

Does it come with a hoop?
Yes — one 20 cm (7.9 in) bamboo hoop, used for each fabric in turn.

Can I hang all three when they are finished?
