Wildflowers in three little glass bottles, hanging from a line. A woven basket overflowing with roses and tied with a red ribbon bow. A pot of raised, rolled roses you can feel under your fingertips. This floral embroidery kit gives you all three designs printed on fabric and ready to stitch, with the threads, a 20 cm bamboo hoop, 9 needles and the tools in the box.

Above each bouquet is a printed stitch dictionary — 17 named stitches across the set, each with its own practice row. Warm up on the row, then use the stitch in the flowers right below it: French knots for tiny buds, woven picots for petals that lift off the fabric, a cobweb rose that turns into a real little rose. You learn a proper range of embroidery stitches and finish with three pretty hoops you will want on the wall.

The three designs

Hanging vases. Purple, yellow and pink flowers with green berries, in three glass bottles strung from a line.

Flower basket. A woven basket heaped with red, yellow, purple and blue blooms, tied with a red ribbon bow.

Raised roses. A pot of rolled, dimensional roses in pink, peach, blue and green, with sprays of colour around it.

The stitch dictionary: 17 stitches

Every fabric is printed with "Embroidery Dictionary" and short practice rows, each named. Across the three designs you meet:

  • Running stitch
  • Back line stitch
  • Outline stitch
  • Split stitch
  • Chain stitch
  • Couching stitch
  • Palestrina stitch
  • French knot stitch
  • Leaf stitch
  • Fancy free stitch
  • Fruit stitch
  • Needle-circle stitch
  • Cartwheel stitch
  • Ribbed spiderweb stitch
  • Woven picot stitch
  • Cobweb rose stitch
  • 3D flower stitch

With the name printed beside every row, you always know what you are stitching — and for any stitch that is new to you, a quick search for its name brings up a short video demonstration. Each instruction sheet shows how its bouquet is worked.

How this compares

Against buying a stitch sampler and a flower kit separately: beginners are often told to learn on a labelled sampler first, then buy a picture kit. Here both are on the same fabric, so you learn a stitch and use it in the same sitting.

Against flat floral kits: the woven picots, cobweb roses and 3D flower stitches stand up from the fabric, so the finished hoops have real texture.

Against counted cross-stitch kits: there is no grid to count. This is hand embroidery — you stitch over printed lines on plain fabric.

Size, materials and care

  • Hoop: bamboo, 20 cm (7.9 in) across. Each design is printed to fit it.
  • Fabric: cotton.
  • The blue printed lines wash out with water, so keep the fabric dry and do not wash it until your stitching is finished.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a good embroidery kit for beginners?
Yes. Every stitch is named on the fabric beside a practice row, the threads are pre-sorted for each design, and the hoop and tools are included. Customers have called it perfect for a first-timer.

What is an embroidery stitch dictionary?
A reference set of stitches, each shown worked and labelled with its name. In this kit the dictionary is printed on the fabric itself, so you stitch your own copy of it above each bouquet.

How many stitches will I learn?
17 named stitches across the three fabrics, from simple running and back line stitch to raised stitches like the cobweb rose and woven picot.

Is this cross-stitch?
It is hand embroidery, worked over printed lines on plain fabric, so there is no chart to count.

Can I hang all three when they are finished?
Yes. Display one in the included hoop, and add matching 20 cm hoops from our Embroidery Hoops collection to hang all three together.

I personally didn’t find the instructions very clear so had to watch a few videos online to pick up how to do most stitches but good quality embroidery kit otherwise.
