Craft storage earns its money the day you stop turning a drawer out to find a 4 mm hook. Everything here does one job: it gives a thing a place, and it tells you at a glance whether the thing is in it.

Needles and hooks

  • Straight needles up to 14 inches — a 40 cm zip-around organiser.
  • Straight needles up to 16 inches — a slim 43 cm case with a measuring strip printed along it, so you can size a needle without hunting for the stamp.
  • Circulars — a dedicated case, because the thing that ruins a circular is a kinked cable, and a case built for straights will kink it.
  • Hooks — a crochet hook case with numbered slots, or the combined knitting and crochet organiser if you do both crafts and would rather carry one thing.

Floss

The single most useful upgrade for anyone who embroiders. An embroidery floss organizer here comes three ways: a boxed set with numbered bobbins, a 30 or 50 slot case with replaceable number cards and a built-in needle holder, or wooden and numbered boards running 01 to 111 for a full DMC-style range. Wind once, number once, and never guess a shade again.

There are also spool huggers for stopping loose thread ends unwinding on the reel, and a three-cone spool stand that feeds thread straight into a sewing machine.

Cases, or bags?

Different jobs. A case holds tools, in slots, in order — which is everything above. A bag carries the work itself. There are a couple of bags here, but the full range, including the ones with a grommet that feeds yarn while the bag stays shut, is on knitting bags and yarn bags.

How much storage do you actually need?

Buy for the craft you do most, not for all of them. One good case for your main tool beats three half-used boxes. The combined organisers are the exception — if you genuinely knit and crochet in the same week, one case is less to lose.
